WHAT’S GARN ON

Uncategorized

Marvin Gaye said it best, or something similar. There’s plenty to get excited about in the coming months—Waves alone is bringing national standouts including Everything Everything and Lambrini Girls, but here are some of the standalone shows we’re getting excited to attend in the coming months.

FRIDAY 17 NOVEMBER

NINEBANKS and TEARJERKER @ INDEPENDENT

The first ever Meltdown live event combines late-night DJs with live bands, and a later start time of 8pm for those dirty stopouts. This month we have pop punkers Ninebanks, with alt-punk Tearjerker, who will probably find common ground in obsessing over the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater soundtrack and wearing dickies, sweat bands, spiked hair and new Vans, etc.

SATURDAY 9 DECEMBER

LOTTIE WILLIS @ INDEPENDENT

Sweet and unassuming with a voice to match, Lottie Willis is everyone’s favourite local pop princess/trainee midwife. Launching her debut EP ‘2003’ will a full live band, this show at Independent will see Lottie graduate to a legitimate headline act after years honing her talents as part of the Young Musician’s Project and collecting festival dates up and down the North East.

SATURDAY 23 DECEMBER

STOCKTON ROAD HIT SQUAD @ THE SHIP ISIS

Seasonal cheer galore as the Sunderland music collective known as ‘Stockton Road Hit Squad’ bring us a night of christmas and pop bangers to raise money for cat and dog charities. The group, named after The Bunker, and their guests include Patrick Gosling, CP Thompson, Chris Hair, Rachael Small, Stoops, Ben Martin, Phil Jackson, Eve Cole and many more.

One for the diaries…

FRIDAY 2 FEBRUARY 2024

IST IST @ INDEPENDENT

Sunderland’s Independent has signed up once again to Independent Venue Week, and will celebrate by bringing IST IST’s formidable and intense live show to the North East. Their recently released album ‘Protagonists’ has won great acclaim, and their exciting live show has even warranted the release of a live album, so make sure your name is in the hat for these tickets.
